Ambition Essay Example for Free

Ambition Essay You should be familiar with the proverb â€Å"Hitch your wagon to a star. † The logic behind this proverb is simple. If you do not aspire for something great, you will not strive for the goal set consequently leading a life of regrets. Living a life of regrets determines a path less than desirable when you can follow the road of greater choice and be ambitious and go forth to lead a fulfilling and rewarding life. An ambition is an eager desire for honor, superiority, power, and the attainment of something set as a goal, accomplishment, or achievement. Ambition comes from the Middle English word â€Å"ambicioun,† meaning and excessive desire for power, money, or wealth. Ambition is something that you, no matter your age or cultural background, have inside of them. Ambition can be a driving force for success, or in some cases a road to failure. Through ambitious undertakings you can set goals and find yourself using your God-given talents. You too can have a dream! My ambition or goal in life is becoming a doctor. Since I was a young girl watching my Mom working at the hospital I have dreamed of wearing that white coat and the stethoscope. My earliest memories include the stories from my mother with regard to caring for patients. You can believe that one day you will be able to see me look into my patient’s eyes and be able to know exactly how to diagnose and mend that person’s ailment. The road to making my dream a reality will not be easy, nor can you expect your dreams to be easy. Each one of you will have many great college classes, labs, examinations, and sleepless nights ahead in the years to come. But, in the end you will know it is worth all the hard work and sacrifice and you will be able to stand proud knowing that it was your ambition that allowed you to achieve success! In choosing medical school you would have to do well on the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) and hearing that that examination is brutal makes me want to achieve success even more! Well my journey has begun here in Colorado and with God’s grace making good grades will allow me to be accepted into a medical program that will require ambition and drive. Specializing in Neonatology will require me to ocus each day using ambition to proceed forward in my career. Neonatology is the medical specialty of taking care of newborn babies, sick babies, and premature babies. You can also use ambition to move forward with your goals you may have set forth. This is my ambition making me believe that with hard work and determination you can achieve! Helen Keller rightly echoes these sentiments when she says â€Å"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, Ambition inspired, and success achieved. †

Good Earth :: essays research papers

In the book The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, the fall of the House of Hwang and the rise of the Wang family was shown. The story completed a â€Å"circle of life†, with Wang being the center of the circle. While Wang at first was intimidated, he also looked down on the House of Hwang, he soon found that when his family became rich, his house fell onto some of the same â€Å"curses†. In both houses, a lack of love for the land was highly noticeable (except for Wang Lung), opium was used, slaves were bought and sold even though Wang first opposed slaves, and the future heirs wished to sell the land for money but at the same time lose their support for if the house should fall.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  When the House of Hwang was in power, Wang noticed how they had a complete lack of love for the earth. They had to constantly sell pieces of land to pay their immediate debts, but by doing this they gave away their support if a dark time should fall upon the house. Wang knew that this would be the downfall of the house, so he bought the land from the house. After the House of Hwang fell, the House of Wang came to power. Wang kept in mind his whole life that without the good earth, he was nothing. Wang worried when he noticed that his sons lacked his love for the land. Wang was disturbed to think that when he passed away his sons would sell the land, and his family would succumb to the same fate of the Hwang house; as shown on page 37 when Wang said, â€Å"Sell their land!...Then indeed are they growing poor. Land is one’s flesh and blood†.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Opium usage was a major role in the downfall of the Hwang house. The Old Mistress was heavily addicted to the drug, and in her desire for the drug, she drove her house â€Å"into the ground†. On page 39, Wang was paying the Gate Keeper for the land he was purchasing and the Gate Keeper said â€Å"Here is enough for a few days of opium for the old lady, at any rate†. For the House of Wang, opium became almost a relief for Wang when he devised his plan to rid his family of his Uncle and his wife. He could not cast out his Uncle because he was providing protection from marauders. Keeping this in mind, Wang then gave his Uncle and the Uncle’s wife some opium hoping that they would Good Earth :: essays research papers In the book The Good Earth by Pearl S. Martin Gansberg Thirty-Eight Who Saw Murder and Didn’t Call the Police Essay

The article by Martin Gansberg, Thirty-eight who saw murder and didn’t call the police, is about an isolated event. I don’t think something like this happens a lot. Normally people would call the police or do something to help the victim. But unfortunately sometimes people can be very cold or even cruel, like in this case. Some people just don’t care about what is going on around them, if someone is in need of help or some cooperation. It’s more typical for those who live in big cities because in a busy urban life, in the crowd current they don’t have a time to stop and analyze what would be the right thing to do and they just don’t want to get involved and put themselves in troubles. In small towns people are more responsive, and the situation like this would less likely to happen. Another thing that is influent is crime and violence scenes that people constantly see on television, internet, movies. People getting used to seeing that on tv all the time in real life perceive it like another show and just watch without any action and some of them even get excited about how it’s all going to end. Luckily I have never been in situation when I had to report a crime in progress, but I know if something happens I am not going to stand there and watch. And hopefully I will never get in situation when I’m the one who needs help and no one helps. The opening line of the Martin Gansberg’s article â€Å"Thirty-eight who saw murder and didn’t call the police† states: â€Å" For more than half an hour 38 respectable, law-abiding citizens in Queens watched a killer stalk and stab a woman in three separate attacks in Kew Gardens. † But it doesn’t mean that they were staying around like in arena watching the killer slaughtering a victim from the very beginning to the end. The author uses little exaggeration to dramatize what happened. It may not be the fact but it expresses author’s position. It shows how angry and disappointed he is, it shows his condemnation. Although writers, especially reporters, have an ethical responsibility to be accurate, little exaggeration and distortion can take a place, what can help author to express their position and their point of view. What matters is what exactly and how much has been distorted. For example, article says that the killer made three attempts to kill the woman. If indeed the victim died from the first attempt and the killer run away after that, but author changed the story to make it more dramatic, that would be very serious distortion of the story.

Why I must Be Careful Essay - 1222 Words

Why I Must Be More Careful By Freddie L. Holmes Jr As I sit and type, while I can think of a million reasons why I need to be more careful and not speed, there are two reasons that seem to stick out at the top of my head. The first reason is, I need to be more careful because I could cause harm to myself and second, and more importantly, to someone else. Causing harm to me can lead to a whole lot of heartache for my family. It would further prove that everything my Mom and Dad were telling me is no joke. They love me and want me to grow up to become a functional and successful young man in today’s society. Causing harm to someone else could also lead to a lot of heartache for my family as well as someone else’s family.
